So on Saturday (as I panicked on Twitter) was the big wedding of my school friend. She’s one year younger than me but her husband and she are in their tenth year of relationship. What an achievement!
Because they got married last year already, they wanted their church ceremony to be big and nice. And that’s what they really got. The reception was held in a four star-hotel with excellent service, the buffet had almost 15 courses and there was a cake stand with dessert (nomnom).
For most of us this means that we have one day off. Many boyfriends and fathers gather to wander around with a barrel of beer on wheels and have fun. The Boyfriend and I will visit friends today for male/female activities. The boys will tinker with HAM stuff and us girls will talk and knit. :)
In preparation I’ve been shopping yesterday, originally just to buy some red onions that I was missing for dinner. I ended up buying two baskets of fresh blueberries because they smiled so nicely at me.
Of course I only bought the blueberries after a quick search through foodgawker, and at the sight of Blueberry Streusel Muffins I just couldn’t resist: I had to make these! Just the mention of streusel revives a childhood memory of mine.
Most of you know that I was a very picky eater as a child, even into my early adulthood. But baked goods and everything containing sugar, I couldn’t resist. So it was natural that my hands always grabbed into the box of streusel when my mother made streusel cake. It even went as far as my mother making a second batch of streusel, hidden in the fridge because she knew I would eat the first. Useless to say my mother made lots of streusel cake in my childhood – moreover it was her trademark cake that every friend of hers requested for their birthday. Really, my mother is a much better baker than cook, very much like me.
This was my first time only using the American system of cups instead of meticulously measuring every ingredient to the gram. I love to follow recipes by word and that never failed me to date, so it was hard for me not to fall back into the metric system. At long last I was pretty happy with the result, although our oven went bonkers again and took almost twice as long for the muffins to finish. Except for the streusel which are made with brown sugar instead of white as is usual in Germany, they taste almost exactly like the ones Starbucks does. And I love me anything that tastes like Starbucks. <3 Perfect gift for the hosts today!
I have a thing for collecting things, especially very tiny things. That’s why I love my action mole so much. I remember once, when my mother gave me a set of teeny-tiny coloured pencils in a cardboard box. I was the happiest 12 year old on Earth, hihi. Have a picture of tiny Talpa and a tiny acorn:
Autumn is already here, is it? I’m totally not ready for it yet! I want more summer days, lounging on a blanket in a public park, watching people illegally barbecue or doing awesome tricks.
Last Friday, the boyfriend and me have been to the Impossible Project Factory Outlet. Admittedly, it is as small as it looks in the pictures. But the shop manager was really nice and surprisingly spoke German really well! We ended up buying 6 packages of film, ND-filters and the Impossible frog tongue. Everything was even cheaper than I thought, but I will continue using all my films preciously.
Of course, to my mild irritation the day after Impossible announced an Open House Day in a newsletter! I would’ve loved to visit the factory after driving about 250 kms… Anyway, we had a really enjoyable yet slow ride to and fro and even went a little bit shopping in the city centre of Enschede. There will be more pictures when my film is developed!
Look at this cute guy! And imagine, he also has a use! Most of time, when you buy something out of a whim, it’s just cute and will stand around. This guy, he’s also a cute bear rug coaster! And you can use him to keep your table tidy. The awesome girl behind this idea is dandyrions, who also makes other cute stuff like this Wrapped Fox T-Shirt:
Is it Friday already? I cannot believe it! Actually, I’m supposed to do something different altogether. But while browsing through ravelry, the knit-place-to-be, I discovered Mochimochi Land‘s patterns! ‘Mochi’ actually refers to the sweet rice cake filled with red bean paste – at least that was my first reference. But looking at Mochimochi Land’s designs, I imagine they are as fluffy and squinch-able as the Japanese sweet! Here are some examples:
I remember seeing the toilet-design online, but I couldn’t believe you can actually reproduce it!
There are many more designs, so you should go have a look! The patterns can be bought through Mochimochi Land.
It’s Friday folks! I give you another cute picture of little Talpa today. :)
Although only four days old, Talpa has suffered some serious damage at the birthday party: most of her cute mint mittens are gone, especially at the hind legs. :(
